Club Management Staff

Paul Garrett, CCM - General Manager Mark Welage - Golf Professional

Paul Garrett is the General Manager of Western Hills Country Club. He grew up in Cincinnati, graduating from Greenhills High School and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati. Paul has a diverse hospitality management background which includes private club management, hotels and contract dining. Most of you will remember Paul from when he was our Assistant Manager from 1996 to 1999. Most recently, he was the Assistant General Manager at Kenwood Country Club.

Paul is delighted to be back at Western Hills and is looking forward to reacquainting himself with the Club and its members. The Garrett's are avid Bearcat fans and are actively involved in their church. Paul and his wife Leeann (also a UC alum) are the proud parents of daughter Madeline. They reside on the west side.

Mark, is a native Westsider. He earned a golf scholarship to Northern Kentucky University where he earned Honorable Mention All-American twice and graduated with a degree in Finance.
He began his professional career with a brief stint on the Mini-tours, then became 1st Assistant at Deer Run County Club in 1997. His next stop brought him back to WHCC as an assistant to long time Golf Pro Gene Samborsky in 1998/99. Mark then moved to Mason and eventually became the Director of Golf at Four Bridges Country Club in Liberty Township. Four Bridges, with almost 800 Members is one of the busiest Country Clubs in the state.
Mark is currently living in Western Hills and enjoys electronic gadgets, all sports (particularly college basketball) and attempting to keep fit.

Erlene Ellis - Office Manager Edith Hillberg - Club Accountant
Erlene joined the Western Hills Staff in October of 1986. She was a food server for two years before becoming our front desk receptionist. Over the years she has learned more aspects of the Club and has done every office job. Along with supervising the office staff and overseeing new membership related inquiries, she also books all member sponsored functions including wedding receptions, birthday parties and showers as well as Club parties. Erlene truly enjoys her job at WHCC, the members and her co-workers -and since she does a little bit of everything - she never gets bored. Erlene is married to Elliott and they have six grown children and seven grandchildren. Edie joined the Western Hills Staff in March, 2008. Most recently she held the position of Accountant for Royal Oak Country Club. She has over 15 years of financial management experience including positions at Commonwealth Hotels and the Vernon Manor. She has her B.S degree in Accounting from the College of Mt. Saint Joseph. Edie lives in Sycamore Township with her husband Ted. They enjoy working together on renovation and decorating projects in their home.

Lynn Thompson - Course Superintendent

Dan Klenk - Clubhouse Maintenance

Lynn Thompson has been the Golf Course Superintendent at Western Hills Country Club since 1986. Previously, he was the Head Superintendent of Worthington Hills Country Club in Columbus, Ohio. Lynn is certified by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. He is an Honors Graduate of the Ohio State University, with a B.S. degree in Agronomy. Lynn and Deborah, his wife of 25 years, have three daughters aged 22, 18 and 7 years old. Lynn is proud to be only the third Superintendent at Western Hills Country Club since 1914. He is active in his church and enjoys classical music and camping.

Dan Klenk thrives on keeping this 100 plus year old building in tip-top shape. All in what he does: Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Masonry, H.V.A.C., Opening-Maintaining-Closing our Olympic sized Swimming Pool, painting, Troubleshooting and all general Maintenance. He stays busy and loves what he does. Dan learned most of what he knows from his father, who was a trade master. After 20 years of Shop Maintenance and Management NAPA Auto Parts, Dan joined us in 1996. Dan has been involved in all of our major renovations since then. Dan lives in Delhi with his wife Melinda and his son Jeffrey

Darrell Smith - Clubhouse/Food & Beverage Mgr.

Greg Skibinski CEC - Executive Chef

Darrell began his career in the Hospitality Industry 15 years ago with Four Seasons Hotels in New Mexico and later with Sheraton Hotels in Colorado. Darrell moved to the Cincinnati area 10 years ago and worked for Winegardner and Hammons Hotels where he held positions from Banquet Manager to Hotel General Manager. He spent time at Five Seasons Country Club as Club Operations Manager and joins us from his most recent assignment as Food and Beverage Director of the Radisson Riverfront Hotel.

Greg is a Certified Executive Chef who comes to us from Coldstream Country Club where he's been their Chef for 4 years. Greg was the 2004 Cincinnati Chef of the Year and has also worked for the Maisonette Restaurant Group and Sturkey's Restaurant prior to Coldstream. Greg is very hands-on, passionate about cooking and multi-dimensional in various cuisines.

Doug Wade - Assistant Golf Professional

Mary Chapman - Banquet Manager

Doug is originally from Lima, Ohio. Doug graduated from Ohio State University, where he played on the golf team and was named First Team All Big Ten in 2002. Doug played golf professionally for four years, and has multiple mini-tour victories. He entered the PGA PGM program in 2006 while working as an assistant pro at Belfair Plantation in Bluffton, South Carolina. His most recent assignment was as the golf professional at the Celebrity Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. Doug and his wife Tracy were married in 2006 and have a daughter, Samantha.

Mary Chapman joined the Western Hills Country Club staff in September 1997. Mary is a longtime westsider and a graduate of Mother of Mercy High School. Mary is also a proud mother of two children, Amanda and Jordan. Before Mary's arrival at WHCC, she worked at the Cincinnatian Hotel in private dining for 4 1/2 years. All together, Mary has 21 years of Food & Beverage experience. This is Mary's first country club employment, and she enjoys and loves her job.

Sarah Hellmann - Pool Manager

Sarah attended high school at Seton and received her BA at Muskingum College. She received her MA in International Education while living overseas. She is currently working towards her Doctorate at the University of Cincinnati.

Sarah has many years experience working with pools. She has been a lifeguard since the age of fifteen and has experience coaching at the varsity level. Sarah has been an art teacher for eight years and enjoys working with children.

Sarah and her family live in Covedale and are parishioners at St. Antoninus. In her spare time she enjoys working in her yard, reading and training for triathlons. She looks forward to getting to know the families at Western Hills Country Club and to helping their children learn and grow while enjoyng their time at the pool.
